INTRODUCTION TO IELTS

IELTS is an International English Language Testing System which is Worldwide famous as it helps those students and aspirants who are aspiring to move abroad. IELTS is an exam conducted by University Of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, British Council and IDP IELTS Australia. FORMAT OF IELTS

IELTS has basically two versions

  • Academic: Academic profile is suited for the higher studies, Job aspirants and Nurses.
  • General: Rest categories fall under this.

 

IELTS has Four Modules:

LISTENING: it is the very first part of IELTS, consists of four sections including 40 questions to answer. In this part the recording is played and the test is done using headphones. This module is same for Academic and General Candidates. In this module the tape is only played once. The time allotted is 40 minutes (30 min for reading ,10 min for transferring answers )

READING: It is the second module of IELTS, consists three passages and 40 questions. The time allotted to solve is 60 minutes. It is different for both Versions.

In Academic three passages are sourced from books, journals, magazines with length of 2000 to 2800 words.

In General three passages are sourced from notices, magazines, and books.

WRITING: it is the third part of IELTS. Its duration is 60 minutes. It consists of two tasks. Task I is (20 mins-150 words min) and Task II is (40 minutes – 250 words min). The style of writing acceptable is Formal. It is different for both versions.

Academic:

  • Task I – Graph/Picture
  • Task II – Essay

General:

  • Task I – Letter
  • Task II – Essay

SPEAKING:  It is the last part of IELTS. It consists of Oral interview between the candidate and interviewer. The time duration is 11 to 14 minutes. This interview is scheduled within the 7 days of first three tests.

REQUIREMENTS FOR IELTS:

  • Passport copy
  • Passport size photos
  • Hall ticket

MATERIAL REQUIRED:

  • Pencil
  • An eraser
  • ID card

There is no negative marking in IELTS. Moreover, there is no Pass/Fail system. The bands attained during test are valid for 2 years.
